"Off the Walls" Abstract Sculpture

Lead by Teacher Candidate Emily Hallewell

under Practitioner

Liz Brennan

at Brookline High School

The students will reflect on the printmaking assignment ‘Cartography as a Source of Inspiration’ and how that place hold meaning and emotions associated with the environment and personal history. The student’s will use this as inspiration as they learn about and develop their own relief sculpture. In the process of building a relief sculpture, they will develop contemporary processes in artist research, experimentation and reflection. The students will grow in their thinking about their surroundings and how to best convey feeling in their work.

Hi, I am Em, an art director transitioning into public education to uproot systemic inequalities in our community through art education. I encourage students to question, create and reflect to understandings tools and methods to use their imagination for growth and progress. I will give students a curriculum that inspires agency in their work, so that each student may develop their artistic style and processes. I hope my students can use art to help answer life's questions, persevere throughout any challenges, and reflect critically on themselves and the world around them.

In my free time I ride bikes, throw pots, tend to my garden, practice yoga, cook with family, and design work for my clients. I have a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College; cum laude in art & correlate in computer science.
