This time in Japan greatly influenced my approach to teaching, emphasizing the importance of community-building and caring for others. I discovered the power of establishing a positive classroom environment through a sense of community and respecting and celebrating diverse cultures.

Upon returning to the US, I continued my path as an art educator at Kennedy-Longfellow School, working with a majority high needs student population, including English language learners. My focus was on creating art lessons that encouraged self-expression and fostered empathy and understanding across differences.

In my free time, in addition to making art, I also find great peace in exploring the natural world around me, whether it's hiking, skiing or just taking photos of moss in my yard.

I'm excited to continue my journey as an art educator, guiding students on their own creative paths and helping them become the changemakers and cultural innovators our world needs.

Hello!

I'm Catherine Martinoff, an art educator passionate about nurturing creativity and fostering a supportive classroom environment. My journey in teaching began with an incredible six-year experience living and working in Japan, where I taught English and had the honor of participating yearly with my students in the UNESCO-recognized Hanawa Bayashi Festival as a taiko drum performer and dancer.
