POSITIVITY POSTERS

Lead by Isabel Cole at Boston Teachers Union K-8 Pilot School under Supervising Practitioner Laura Davila.

In this lesson, 2nd Graders at BTU Pilot created Positivity Posters to be displayed in the school hallways to spread joy and happiness around the school. Students were asked the questions: "How can art make us happy?" and "How can we use emotions in our artwork to inspire others?" We looked at examples of inspirational posters by modern and contemporary artists. Students focused on two big ideas: (1) Art can instill happiness and joy in others; and (2) Artists use emotions to inform their artwork. Students came up with their own positivity slogan and designed an image to emphasis their statement, focusing on bright and bold imagery and lettering.  â€‹

I am an artist and art educator living in Cambridge, MA. My passion for art comes from my quirky artistic family and love for all things bright, colorful, and funky! As an art museum geek, I love to engage my students with all things contemporary art to get their inspiration flowing and spur conversations about pop culture. I strive to expose students to local art and artists to connect students to their communities, while also incorporating Social Emotional Learning into my lessons.
